Mireya to lead NORCECA’s new Athletes Commission
SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, October 24, 2020 – NORCECA
Volleyball Confederation will have an Athletes Commission
presided over by Cuban legend Mireya Luis Hernández, the
three-time Olympic champion.
The creation of the new commission was discussed a day earlier
during the meeting of the Executive Committee and Board of
Administration.
“The commission will permit the players to have a voice in the
decisions of the organization regarding the protection of the
athletes,” said Luis Hernández who was part of the IOC Athletes
Commission for eight years.
“The role of the commission will be to defend our athletes and
to hear their claims and comments”, Luis said. “I am elated with
this opportunity to represent the athletes, the most important
part of our competitions.”
The president of NORCECA Cristobal Marte Hoffiz requested from
each of the four zonal associations within the confederation to
submit a list of three former players with solid backgrounds as
potential members of the new commission. The zonal associations
are NCVA, CAZOVA, ECVA and AFECAVOL
The list must include players of both genders and cover both
volleyball and beach volleyball.
The Athletes Commission was the last point discussed during the
afternoon session on Saturday following the reports presented by
the presidents of the eleven commissions of NORCECA: Finance,
Sport Organizing, Beach, Development, Marketing, Refereeing,
Press, Medical, Legal, Coaches and VIS. |
