Morales & Alfaro continues their sterling show
SAN JOSE, Costa Rica, March 7, 2013 – Costa Rica’s Ingrid
Morales and Natalia Alfaro advanced to the semifinals of the
women’s beach volleyball tournament of the X Central American
Games with an undefeated record in eight outings at the double
round-robin preliminary phase of the competition.
Morales/Alfaro completed their sterling performance with
victories over Guatemala’s Ingrid Lopez and Lourdes Ramirez 2-0
(21-14, 21-14) and Nicaragua’s Elia Torrez/Swan Mendoza 2-0
(21-16, 21-18) on Thursday.
Guatemalans Lopez/Ramirez qualified in second place with a 5-3
win-loss record following their three-set (10-21, 21-19, 15-12)
win over El Salvador’s Diana Romero and María Vargas.
In Friday’s semifinals, the team of Morales/Alfaro goes against
Romero/Vargas (3-5) while the duo Lopez/Ramirez meets
Torrez/Mendoza (4-4).
In the men’s tournament, Costa Rica’s Gilberto and Alexander
Villegas and El Salvador’s Carlos Escobar and David Vargas
advanced to the semifinals following lopsided victories on
Thursday.
The Villegas brothers downed Honduras’ Wilfredo Vega and Douglas
Izaguirre 2-0 (21-11, 21-5) while Escobar/Vargas beat Belize’s
Gustavo Morataya and Abimael Godoy 2-0 (21-8, 21-16).
In semifinals, Escobar/Vargas will play now Guatemalans Andy
Leonardo/Luis García while Villegas/Villegas meet Nicaraguans
Gerald Umaña and Henry Hernandez. The teams of Honduras and
Belize will compete for fifth place.
