Morales appointed new coach of Puerto Rican Women’s Team

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico, October 27, 2020 – Fernando Morales, who enjoyed a successful career of more than 20 seasons in Puerto Rican League, with stints in Europe and many years with the Men’s National squad has been named new head coach of the Puerto Rican Women’s Team.

Morales who is currently coaching the female side of the Evansville University in Indiana, USA, was the assistant coach of the Puerto Rican team during the qualifying event to the Olympic Games held last January in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

“The experience acquired overseas definitely is a plus”, Morales said. “I have had many good coaches whom I still keep contact and serve as mentors to me. I am pretty enthusiastic with this new challenge.”

Morales will be assisted by former national players Hector “Picky” Soto and Gregory Berrios. He replaces Jose Mieles who served as head coach for four years.

Captain Natalia Valentin reacted to the appointment of Morales:

“I am really glad with this appointment. I am convinced that Fernando and the new staff all have the capacity to achieve great things. They are young and dedicated students of the game of volleyball which is extremely important at the international level.”
