Morales appointed new coach of Puerto Rican Women’s Team
SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico, October 27, 2020 – Fernando Morales, who
enjoyed a successful career of more than 20 seasons in Puerto
Rican League, with stints in Europe and many years with the
Men’s National squad has been named new head coach of the Puerto
Rican Women’s Team.
Morales who is currently coaching the female side of the
Evansville University in Indiana, USA, was the assistant coach
of the Puerto Rican team during the qualifying event to the
Olympic Games held last January in Santo Domingo, Dominican
Republic.
“The experience acquired overseas definitely is a plus”, Morales
said. “I have had many good coaches whom I still keep contact
and serve as mentors to me. I am pretty enthusiastic with this
new challenge.”
Morales will be assisted by former national players Hector
“Picky” Soto and Gregory Berrios. He replaces Jose Mieles who
served as head coach for four years.
Captain Natalia Valentin reacted to the appointment of Morales:
“I am really glad with this appointment. I am convinced that
Fernando and the new staff all have the capacity to achieve
great things. They are young and dedicated students of the game
of volleyball which is extremely important at the international
level.” |
