MEXICALI, Mexico, May 26, 2016 – More than 100 coaches,
technicians and students attended the volleyball clinics
conducted by renowned coach Hugh McCutcheon at CETYS University
campus in Mexicali, Baja California.
The New-Zealand born McCutcheon, who is currently the coach of
University of Minnesota in the United States, gained fame after
leading the USA men’s team to the gold medal at the Beijing
Olympic Games in 2008 and the women’s team to a silver medal at
the London Olympic Games in 2012.
The topics of the clinics included the role of the coaches and
their leadership qualities, how to manage the relationship with
the players and the governance by rules or by principles.
McCutcheon remarked on the importance of statistics and the
evaluation of the players’ performance as well as the scouting
and working on the fundamentals of the game.
Match reading, planning of practices and organization of
training camps and try-outs are also key factors to be taken
into consideration for a coach.
McCutcheon shared his experiences as a college player in the
United States for Brigham Young University and as national
player for New Zealand as well as his coaching career.
The opening ceremony of the clinics was attended by
representatives of the U.S. General Consulate in Tijuana, the
government of the State of Baja California and the authorities
of the CETYS campus in Mexicali.
