NORCECA Circuit stops in St Lucia for penultimate leg of 2016
PIGEON POINT, St Lucia, October 12, 2016 – The 10th stop of the
2016 NORCECA Beach Volleyball Circuit will take place in St
Lucia at Pigeon Point Beach from October 14 to 16.
St Lucia National Volleyball Federation is organizing the double
gender event for the fourth time with the previous tournaments
held in 2012, 2013 and 2015.
Twenty-five foreign pairs (12 women’s and 13 men’s) will be
joined by the athletes representing the host country in the
penultimate competition of the year. Players will be divided
into four pools with the top two pairs from the round-robin
pool-play will advance to the winners’ bracket.
Canadians Cameron Wheelan and Michael Plantinga, who won the
men’s gold medal in Guanacaste, Costa Rica are among the
participating teams and figure to be among the favorites.
Americans Irene Hester and Caitlin Ledoux, winners in Saint
Lucia last year are both competing along new partners this time
around. Hester will have four-time gold medal winner Emily Day
as her partner, while Ledoux will play with Emily Stockman.
Costa Rica’s Olympians Karen Cope and Natalia Alfaro are also a
strong duo as well as Canada’s Megan Nagy and Marie Christine
Lapointe, who finished second in the previous event of the year
held in Boqueron, Puerto Rico.
Players representing the United States have won in both genders
in the three events held in St Lucia.
Will Montgomery and Jonathan Mesko claimed the men’s top honors
in 2012, followed by David McKensie and Austin Rester in 2013
and brothers Trevor and Taylor Crabb in 2015. Kathryn Babcock
and Traci Weamer, Heather Hughes and Lane Carico, and Irene
Hester and Caitlin Ledoux took home the women’s gold medals.
