Mourns the Passing of Distinguished Cuban Coach Juan Carlos Gala
SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, July 22, 2026. – The NORCECA
Volleyball Confederation, its President Cristóbal Marte Hoffiz,
the Executive Committee, and the entire volleyball family of our
Confederation deeply mourn the passing of distinguished Cuban
coach Juan Carlos Gala.
Throughout his career, Juan Carlos Gala dedicated his life to
the development of volleyball, distinguishing himself through
his work in developing athletes and his contributions to the
growth of the sport both in Cuba and internationally. He guided
Cuba's men's junior national team to the silver medal at the
2009 FIVB Men's U21 World Championship and later served as head
coach of his country's senior women's national team. In the
final stage of his coaching career, he continued to share his
expertise as head coach of Peru's men's national team.
Recognized for his professionalism, discipline, and commitment
to teaching, Gala was a role model for players, coaches, and
administrators alike. Through his experience and leadership, he
contributed to the growth of volleyball in every program he led,
leaving a legacy that transcended generations and borders.
NORCECA extends its deepest condolences to his family, loved
ones, friends, and the entire Cuban sports community, offering
its prayers that they may find strength and comfort during this
difficult time.
The volleyball community of our region bids farewell with
gratitude to a coach whose dedication and example will continue
to inspire future generations.
