SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, October 6,
2021 – Men and women players of NORCECA teams
have undergone a total of 452 doping tests
during the past three years without a single
positive result.
Cristobal Marte Hoffiz, president of NORCECA
Confederation and the Pan American Union made
the statement during his participation in the
First Forum on Doping organized by the Dominican
Federation of Sports Medicine in coordination
with CDN Radio and Television.
"We can affirm that volleyball in our continent
is one of the cleanest sports in the world,"
said Marte Hoffiz, who is in charge of the
Female Program of the Dominican Volleyball
Federation.
He pointed out that in the 20 years that he has
chaired NORCECA, there have only been three
positive cases for the use of prohibited
substances, which have been recovered, two for
the use of steroids and marijuana, and a third
player who was suspended by the International
Federation of Volleyball by use of stanozolol.
Marte Hoffiz stressed that the NORCECA
Confederation and the Pan American Union both
follow a protocol on the consequences that an
athlete may suffer in case of testing positive
for the use of prohibited substances, which is
reviewed every four years with the World
Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).
He added that these entities have an agreement
with the analytical laboratory of the University
of California in Los Angeles (UCLA) where the
tests to which the athletes are submitted are
sent.
"The WADA protocol establishes, among other
procedures, the methodology used to select
athletes in and out of competitions," said Marte
Hoffiz. "Everything is done in a diaphanous way
in the presence of the delegate of each team
following the selection procedure of the athlete
to be tested." |
