NORCECA President, Veracruz Organizers and BVB Control Committee celebrate joint meeting

VERACRUZ, Mexico, November 22, 2014. -  NORCECA President Cristobal Marte Hoffiz along with members of the Control Committee for the Beach Volleyball Tournament celebrated a joint meeting with the Organizing Committee of the XXII Central American and Caribbean Sports Games of Veracruz (COVER).

Cristóbal Marte Hoffiz started by recognizing the efforts of the COVER members, especially to General Director Carlos Sosa Ahumada, and of NORCECA’s control committee “I deeply value each and everyone’s collaboration and your efforts for a successful Beach Volleyball tournament here at the Games. I have no doubt of the success of this event as the Women’s Volleyball tournament in Cordoba was superb, due to an outstanding organization”.

Following was the presentation of the staff involved, including NORCECA Director of Competition Arnaldo Sanchez, as well as the Venue Operation Director Cesar Osuna and Hilda Gaxiola as representative of the Mexican National Volleyball Federation.

Cesar Osuna, in his report informed as first matter in the agenda, the decision to change the site of the double gender tournament set to start on Wednesday November 26, due to weather conditions in Veracruz, now it will be held at “Magic Kingdom Park” in the city of Veracruz.

Originally the competition would develop in Playa Marti but the weather forecast for next week is of heavy winds that won’t allow playing conditions. A conscious evaluation by NORCECA and the Organizing Committee determined the alteration to protect the integrity of athletes, of the staff involved in the competition and the public who deserve the best sport event possible.

On Saturday, members of the control committee visited Magic Kingdom Park, a recreation center in Veracruz, which has various sports courts; the Skating competition of the Games took place here last week.

The inspection included the revision of the existing sand courts, which will be used as warm up courts, as well as the accommodation facilities, competition courts, the working areas, television and press zones, the location of the medical area, the public, athletes and showers.

The control committee will be scheduling inspections during the following days. According to their arrival, teams have training sessions on November 23-24.  The preliminary inquiry and general technical meeting are on Tuesday 25, and the competition runs from Wednesday 26 thru Sunday November 30.

Arnaldo Sanchez closed the meeting by motivating the team “we are here to support the organizers to make Beach Volleyball the best event in Veracruz”.
