NORCECA Volleyball Family Mourns the Passing of Jamaal Ferguson
NASSAU, Bahamas, January 30, 2026.- The NORCECA volleyball family is
in mourning following the tragic and untimely passing of Jamaal
Ferguson, a standout libero and proud member of the Bahamas National
Volleyball Team.
The
Bahamas Volleyball Federation (BVF) confirmed the tragic news on
Thursday, paying tribute to a player whose passion, discipline, and
relentless pursuit of excellence left an indelible mark on the
national program. Jamaal was widely regarded as a perfectionist and
a tenacious competitor, qualities that defined both his playing
style and his character off the court.
As a
libero, Ferguson brought resilience, consistency, and an exceptional
work ethic to every match. His presence elevated those around him,
setting a higher standard of performance within the team. Beyond his
technical abilities, he was a generous mentor who willingly shared
his knowledge and experience, making his loss especially painful for
younger national team players who will no longer benefit from his
guidance.
Ferguson played a pivotal role in Team Bahamas’ impressive run at
the CAZOVA Championships, hosted in the Bahamas in August 2025. His
contributions helped propel the team to the championship round and
secure a place in the Final Four Tournament, an achievement that
also positioned the team for potential qualification to the
Continental Championship in September 2026. That legacy stands as a
testament to his dedication and impact on the sport.
“This loss profoundly saddens the volleyball community,” said
Kurtwood L. Greene, President of the Bahamas Volleyball Federation.
“On behalf of the BVF Executives and membership, we extend our
deepest condolences to Jamaal’s family, friends, teammates, and all
who were touched by his life and career. May his soul rest in
perfect peace.”
Condolences have poured in from across the region. Mushtaque
Mohammed, President of CAZOVA, also expressed deep sorrow at
Ferguson’s passing.
“On
behalf of CAZOVA, I’m deeply saddened to hear about the untimely
passing of Jamaal,” Mohammed stated. “A standout libero who
represented the Bahamas National Volleyball Teams with pride at the
youth, junior, and senior levels, his defensive skills and
leadership earned him distinction. He will be remembered for his
dedication to the sport and his commitment to excellence on and off
the court. My condolences to his family, friends, and teammates.
Rest in peace, master libero.”
The
NORCECA Volleyball Confederation also joined the regional and
international volleyball family in expressing heartfelt condolences,
acknowledging Ferguson’s contributions and the profound loss felt
throughout the sport.
Jamaal Ferguson’s passing is a tragic loss not only for Bahamian
volleyball, but for the entire Caribbean volleyball community. His
legacy as a competitor, leader, and mentor will be remembered with
respect and gratitude. |
