NORCECA announces deadline for age-group events
SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, September 23, 2020 – NORCECA
Volleyball Confederation confirmed the steps the regional
governing body will take regarding the participation of its
teams in the age-group FIVB World Championships.
Cristobal Marte Hoffiz, president of NORCECA announced that the
possible host countries will have until December 31 to submit
their candidacy and the qualifying events must be played before
February 28, 2021 as it was decided by FIVB.
The FIVB decision, motivated by the pandemic Covid-19, will
offer the different confederations to organize the competitions
granting tickets to the world events.
Marte Hoffiz announced NORCECA is open to accept the modality of
“sports bubble” adopted by several professional leagues in the
middle of the crisis generated by the virus.
“We can accept the bubbles for the NORCECA events despite the
fact we currently don’t have the budget for a financial support
of those kind of tournaments besides the fact that the
organizers must guarantee the participation of all qualified
teams.”
FIVB made it clear that the Confederations not able to hold
their championships are entitled to use their continental
rankings.
NORCECA has two spots secured for the U21 and U20 events and
four slots each for the U18 and U19 competitions.
The top four countries in the U18 class are USA, Canada, Puerto
Rico and Cuba and Cuba, USA, Puerto Rio and Mexico in the U19.
The top two teams in the U20 category are Dominican Republic and
Cuba while Cuba and Canada are the two top-ranked in the U21.
NORCECA informed that in case one of the qualified teams does
not confirm in proper time it will be replaced by the next
country in the continental rankings.
