NORCECA contributes to Dominican Republic Border Games
SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, May 7, 2014 – The NORCECA
Volleyball Confederation donated all the volleyball and beach
volleyball equipment to be used in the First Dominican Border
Games organized by the Dominican Republic Olympic Committee.
NORCECA President Cristobal Marte Hoffiz and DR Olympic
Committee President Luis Mejía Oviedo attended a ceremony held
at the premises of the Olympic Committee in Santo Domingo.
“We in NORCECA are always open to cooperate to the expansion of
volleyball and beach volleyball and this is an excellent
scenario to promote our sports in these five provinces of the
Dominican Republic competing in the games,” Marte Hoffiz said.
The western provinces of Montecristi, Dajabón, Elías Piña,
Jimaní and Pedernales all have borders with Haiti in the
Hispaniola Island shared by the two countries.
“We appreciate the support of NORCECA for this first edition of
the Border Games dedicated to the memory of Roque Napoleon Muñoz,
the president ad vitam of our Olympic Committee,” Mejía Oviedo
said. “I am quite sure this contribution will be welcomed by the
volleyball associations taking part in the competition.”
“Our goal is to have well organized games in the U23 age group
following all the standards of each sport so we also appreciate
the collaboration we are receiving from NORCECA with the
necessary equipment and the technical advice,” Mejía Oviedo
added.
The First Dominican Border Games will take place during the
weekends from June 13 to July 13 in different sites of the five
provinces. |
