SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, April 30,
2022 – NORCECA Confederation is deeply saddened
to learn of the passing of Puerto Rican Miguel
Figueroa, an appreciated member of our referee
community.
Mr. Figueroa officiated in many NORCECA and FIVB
competitions as well as in the superior leagues
of his native country.
Mr. Figueroa was among 12 officials from NORCECA
nominated to receive their international degree
in 2010 after approving the course organized by
the Regional Development Center in Dominican
Republic.
He whistled at the Toronto Pan American Games in
2015 as well as at the Barranquilla Central
American and Caribbean Games in 2018. He also
officiated at the FIVB Junior Championships in
Bahrein and Czech Republic.
A physical education teacher in Yauco, he began
his career officiating matches in the national
league of Puerto Rico in 2005.
NORCECA Confederation joins the Referee Family
in extending its deepest condolences to Miguel
Figueroa’s family, friend and the Puerto Rican
Volleyball Federation at this time of great
sorrow. |
