SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, February 6, 2016 – The
NORCECA Confederation medical delegates at the different
volleyball and beach volleyball competitions held in the region
last year performed 162 anti-doping tests.
Dr. Victor Figueroa, president and member of the NORCECA Medical
Commission and the FIVB Medical Commission, respectively, made
the announcement on Saturday.
“For second consecutive year, NORCECA Confederation has assumed
a leadership role among all the confederations under the
umbrella of FIVB,” Figueroa said.
“The 162 tests -115 in volleyball and 47 in beach volleyball-
were by far the most conducted in any of the five confederations
that comprise the FIVB,” Figueroa added.
Figueroa compared the NORCECA stats with the number of
anti-doping tests conducted in the other four confederations.
“Our totals are more than 50 % superior to those performed
within the European competitions (108) and more than double than
the 76 by the Asian Confederation,” he commented to the
audience. “Africa conducted 56 and South America 48.”
Over the one-day meeting, the members of the commission received
reports from the delegates who attended the competitions and
discussed the functions and responsibilities of the medical
delegates according to the operation manual of FIVB and NORCECA.
They also commented about the conditions predominant in most of
the beach volleyball events as well as the educational program
about banned substances currently in effect in the junior and
youth levels.
NORCECA President Cristobal Marte Hoffiz attended the meeting
and made a report of activities and presented the working plan
for this year and the calendar of competitions until 2019. |
