NORCECA/FIVB Development Center concludes 2014 activities
SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, November 29, 2014 – The
NORCECA/FIVB Regional Development Center in the Dominican
Republic concluded its activities in 2014 with the closing
ceremony of the Reception, Defense and Libero International
Seminar on Friday.
A total of 52 participants hailing from Colombia, Costa Rica,
Cuba, Haiti and Dominican Republic received their certificates
presented by Nelson Ramirez, director of the development center
and Juan Cartagena, the FIVB Instructor from Puerto Rico, who
was the director of the seminar.
Jose Luis Suero, who represented the Dominican Republic Ministry
of Sports and Recreation and Vicente Paniagua, who assisted
Cartagena during the four-day seminar, also attended the
ceremony.
Cartagena commented on the importance of the seminar for the
development and training of the players, highlighting the
defense as a key component of the technical capacity of the
teams.
“Defense in volleyball plays a key role,” Cartagena said. “There
is the tendency to put a lot of emphasis in offense and
frequently coaches forget the importance of defense. We need to
have complete players.”
Ramirez expressed his satisfaction for the number of events
organized by the development center not only in Dominican
Republic but also in several other countries within NORCECA
Confederation.
“I really appreciate the support from NORCECA and the Technical
Department of FIVB in 2014 and now we prepare for another year
full of activities as we continue to fulfill the program of our
development plan, especially for the National Federations in the
category I and II,” Ramirez said. |
