National Circuit kicks off beach volleyball season in Cuba
HAVANA, Cuba, January 24, 2018 – The 2018 season of beach
volleyball in Cuba get started with the National Circuit
featuring two phases –Varadero in February and Ciego de Ávila in
March- between the days 5 and 11 of each month.
Jorge Sosa Ferrer, an expert of the sport, informed that both
stops will have 12 pairs per gender.
“The eight pairs of the national team, as well as two in juniors
age and two other depending on their national ranking, the same
number per gender, will be in action,” he said.
The main duos are preparing with the goal of defending their
women’s and men’s titles –won in Veracruz 2014- at the XXIII
Central American and Caribbean Games of Barranquilla scheduled
from July 19 to August 3, 2018.
The national circuit will be led by the duos of Sergio Gonzalez-Nivaldo
Díax, Karell Peña-Daisel Quesada, Leila Martínez-Lidiannis
Echavarría and Marlen Delis-Yanilsleidis Sánchez.
Sosa confirmed that for the leading teams of Sergio-Nivaldo and
Leila-Lidi, the projected international plan thus far is for
them to play in several phases of the world circuit while for
the second teams the plan is to take in consideration the
NORCECA level, including the stop in Varadero, scheduled from
May 2 to 6.
“All these events at home and abroad will offer the necessary
competition to prepare for the Barranquilla games, while we are
also following the junior teams ahead of the qualification to
the Youth Olympic Games to be held in Argentina next October,”
he said.
The expert also informed that the National Championship will
take place from May 14 to 20 in the city of Nuevitas, Camaguey
where each province will be represented by one team per gender. |
