SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, December 28, 2015 – The New
York City Council has recognized Dominican Cristobal Marte
Hoffiz, NORCECA President and FIVB First Executive Vice
President, as an outstanding citizen for his many years of
community services.
The ceremony took place on December 22 in New York and was
chaired by Ydanis Rodriguez, a council member whose
representation includes the Washington Heights area a populated
section mostly inhabited by people of Latin American origin.
The City Council Citation presented to Marte Hoffiz is
established to recognize persons “who give exemplary service to
their communities, whether through participation in voluntary
programs, through unique personal achievement in their
profession or other endeavors or simply through a lifetime of
good citizenry.”
Marte Hoffiz, who has been president of NORCECA Volleyball
Confederation since 2001, has contributed to develop the sport
in the region with initiatives to promote volleyball and beach
volleyball following the philosophy of inclusion and equity.
He also has been in charge of the female program of the
Dominican Volleyball Federation since 1992 and under his
leadership, passion and devotion the Dominican teams have
attained international recognition capped by the title at this
year’s FIVB U20 World Championship in Puerto Rico.
The certificate states that “such service, which is truly the
lifeblood of the community, so often goes unrecognized and
unrewarded.”
A visibly moved Marte Hoffiz expressed his gratitude and
satisfaction for the homage, especially since it was promoted by
a council member born in the Dominican Republic.
“This one of the happiest moments in my life and it will remain
indelible in my mind for the rest of my years,” he said. “New
York is considered by many as the capital of the world but it is
also the second largest city in population of my country where
over 1.5 million Dominicans or his descendants are making a
living.”
“I really appreciate this kind of honor and I am especially
grateful to all those who made it possible.
May God bless them all!” |
