New Zelanders show power in opening day at Bahamas
NASSAU, Bahamas, July 18, 2017 - They came all the way from down
under to capture victories in day one of the beach volleyball
tournament of the Youth Commonwealth Games on Tuesday.
New Zealand’s Ella Akkerman and Jasmine Pepi-Wilson came out
winners from their two outings of the day against the weak St
Lucia 2-0 (21-4, 21-5) and then against the spirited Rwanda’s
Valentine Munezero and Penelope Musabyima 2-0 (21-10, 21-19) to
win Pool C of the female segment.
However, the most exciting match of the day saw the teams of
Rwanda and Trinidad & Tobago engaged in fiery battle from the
first to final whistle with the African duo of Valentine and
Penelope getting the last laugh 2-1 (21-17, 16-21, 15-13) in 54
minutes over Tysan Selvon and Ebony Williams.

21-7). Pool B: SCO d VAN 2-0 (21-7, 21-19). Pool C: NZL d LCA
