AGUASCALIENTES, Mexico, August 13, 2021 - Puerto
Rico and Costa Rica set a new record for the
highest scoring set in the history of the U-23
Women's Volleyball Pan American Cup last
Thursday.
The teams engaged in a first-set battle in which
Puerto Rico prevailed 34-32, erasing the
previous record of 29-27 established when Peru
beat Argentina on September 9, 2014 and later
equaled by Argentina over the Dominican Republic
on September 20, 2016.
Puerto Rico and Costa Rica proceeded to play to
the maximum of five sets with the Puerto Ricans
winning the game 3-2 (34-32, 25-19, 17-25,
20-25, 16-14).
The 227 points scored by the two teams fell
short by one point of the highest scoring match
in the history of the event when Peru and
Argentina totaled 228 points in the 2014 match
won by the Peruvians 3-2 (22-25, 25-27, 25-22,
29-27, 15-11). |
