New records set by Mexico at U23 Men’s Cup

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, July 17, 2021 – Mexico established two new team records of the U23 Men’s Pan American Cup held in Santo Domingo from July 12 to 16.

The new champions set the new mark for highest scoring set when they prevailed 34-32 in the first set of their pool play against Puerto Rico on July 12 and when they edged Guatemala 32-20 in the second set of their semifinal match on July 15.

The previous mark for highest scoring set in the U23 Men’s Cup was 31-29 by Brazil over Argentina in the second set of their contest on September 27, 2012 and Dominican Republic over Mexico in the second set of their clash on October 7, 2014.

The Mexicans also were part of the new record for the highest scoring match with 232 points in their victory over Puerto Rico 3-2 (34-32, 19-25, 22-25, 25-22, 15-13) on July 12. The oldest record belonged also to Mexico when they contributed to 231 points in their victory over Dominican Republic 3-2 (27-25, 29-31, 19-25, 25-22, 15-13) on October 7, 2014.
