Nicaragua Seeks Third Consecutive Men’s Beach
Volleyball Title at the Central American Games
JALAPA, Guatemala, October 23, 2025.– Nicaragua will aim to capture
its third title in the men’s beach volleyball tournament of the 12th
Central American Games Guatemala 2025. The duo of Rubén Mora and
Dany López will look to defend their crown and maintain Nicaragua’s
dominance in this discipline.
Nicaragua is the reigning men’s champion, thanks to Mora and López’s
victory in the previous edition of the Games held on home soil,
where they defeated Guatemala’s Andy Leonardo and Luis García. On
that occasion, they successfully defended the title previously won
by Henry Hernández and Gerald Umaña in Costa Rica 2013.
With extensive experience and a long-standing presence on the
NORCECA Beach Volleyball Tour, Mora and López have climbed the
podium numerous times. They are also the current Central American
champions and recently earned their qualification to the 2025 FIVB
Beach Volleyball World Championship in Adelaide, as the only Central
American representatives in the event.
In the history of the Central American Games, Honduras and Costa
Rica each hold one gold medal (1997 and 2001, respectively), as well
as one bronze medal each (2001 and 2017, respectively). El Salvador
has claimed three silver medals (1997, 2001, and 2013). Guatemala
owns one silver (2017) and one bronze (2013), while Belize earned a
bronze medal in 1997.
Among Mora and López’s main challengers are strong teams recognized
both regionally and on the NORCECA circuit.
Costa Rica’s Julián Araya and Jhostin Varela have had an outstanding
year, being crowned U23 champions at both NORCECA Tour stops in the
category (Juan Dolio and the Cayman Islands) and finishing third at
the sixth stop in Manzanillo. Meanwhile, Christopher and Yoel
Guardado, twin brothers from El Salvador, were runners-up at the
NORCECA U23 Tour in the Cayman Islands.
The competition format will follow a round-robin system, with the
top team from the preliminary phase advancing directly to the
semifinals. The preliminary round will take place from October 24 to
27, followed by the quarterfinal qualification matches on the
afternoon of October 27, while the semifinals and finals will be
held on October 28, the final day of competition.
The beach volleyball tournament of the 12th Central American Games
Guatemala 2025 will take place at the Jalapa Sports Complex.
