Nicaragua and El Salvador Start Central American Games Beach
Volleyball with Two Victories
JALAPA, Guatemala, October 24, 2025.– Defending champions Rubén Mora
and Dany López of Nicaragua, along with the twin duo Christopher and
Yoel Guardado of El Salvador, started strong in the men’s beach
volleyball tournament of the 12th Central American Games Guatemala
2025, each earning two victories on opening day at the Jalapa Sports
Complex.
The Nicaraguan pair Mora/López, defending champions, showed their
class by dominating José González and Jason Quintero of Panama 2-0
(21-16, 21-14). In their second match of the day, the Nicaraguans
once again set the pace with a solid 2-0 (21-11, 21-13) win over
Irvin Reyes and Manuel Serrano of Honduras, who earlier had fallen
to El Salvador.

For their part, El Salvador’s Christopher and Yoel Guardado began
with a victory over Reyes/Serrano of Honduras in a tightly contested
first set. With the score tied at 14, a powerful attack by
Christopher broke the deadlock, helping the Guardado twins take the
set 21-18 and then close the match 2-0 (21-18, 21-15).
In their second outing, the Salvadoran duo kept their momentum,
quickly jumping to a 7-0 lead against González/Quintero of Panama.
With the score at 19-8, Christopher sustained a minor finger injury
while blocking, requiring brief medical attention but continuing
without issue. El Salvador completed the day with another victory,
winning 2-0 (21-13, 21-11).
Costa Rica’s Julián Araya and Jhostin Varela also debuted with a win
in their only match of the day against Edgar Maldonado and José
Izaguirre of Guatemala. In a close battle, the Costa Ricans claimed
the first set 26-24. Guatemala bounced back to win the second 21-16,
but Araya and Varela regained control in the decider to take the
match 2-1 (26-24, 16-21, 15-7).
The Guatemalan duo Maldonado/Izaguirre finished the day with a 1-1
record after defeating Brandon Fehr and Edgar Martínez of Belize 2-0
(21-18, 21-13), showing improved rhythm in the second set.
The preliminary round, played in a round-robin format, continues on
Saturday. The phase will conclude on the morning of the 27th, with
the top-ranked team advancing directly to the semifinals. Teams
placed 2nd through 7th will compete in qualification matches for the
semifinals later that afternoon. |
