Nicaragua defeats Belize for second win
TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras, December 9, 2014 – Nicaragua defeated
Belize 3-0 (25-16, 25-22, 25-20) for their second win at the
XVIII Men’s Central American Cup at Jorge Galeano Gymnasium in
Tegucigalpa.
Nicaragua didn’t give Belize a break, performing with more
confidence and improvement from their past performances.
Nicaragua executed a well-structured strategy which Belize
wasn’t able to read.
Belize held advantage in blocking (6-3), but Nicaragua’s better
performance in kills by a 47-37 margin, 3-0 in serves and less
unforced errors (15-22) was decisive for their win.
Outside hitter Tito Valdivia was Nicaragua’s top scorer with 24
points and opposite player Jonathan Tuckler contributed with 16
tallies. Belize had in opposite player Karym Coleman its best
scorer with 15 points, followed by outside hitter Keith Castillo
with 11 points.
Coach Osman Hernández of Nicaragua indicated “I’ve said before
that the team is young and they’ve come from less to more in the
tournament; the coaching staff has immersed in instructing the
team and the boys have responded well and I believe that
tomorrow Nicaragua will give a good performance against
Guatemala”.
“Today we started very slow and couldn’t get continuity in the
game; we should play far better for our next match. We’re not
happy with our position in the tournament but there’s not much
we can do, we can only be positive and hope to win the next
game” indicated captain Elton Anderson of Belize. |
