Nicaragua dominates Honduras to remain unbeaten
MANAGUA, Nicaragua, December 11, 2017.- Nicaragua dominated
Honduras 3-0 (25-13, 25-16, 25-19) to remain unbeaten at the
women’s Volleyball tournament of the eleventh Central American
Games Managua 2017 at Alexis Argüello sport complex.
Nicaraguan players were determined and strong over Honduras,
earning their second victory of the event. Nicaragua’s
commanding presence was too much for Honduras that used
different combinations in their attempt to stop the home team.
Honduras committed a total of 34 unforced errors against 19 from
Nicaragua. Nicaragua finished with 29-22 margin in attacks and
9-2 in blocks; Honduras was better in serves with 5-3 margin in
aces.
Outside hitter Valeska Hernandez and opposite Hellen Traña
scored 11 and 10 points respectively to carry Nicaragua into the
win. Outside hitter Hyxe Napky and opposite Cecille Johnson led
Honduras with 7 points apiece.
Nicaragua (2-0) meets El Salvador (0-2) and Honduras (1-1) faces
Costa Rica (1-0) on Tuesday.
Captain of Nicaragua Claudia Noguera:
“It’s important to keep on adding because it’s a round-robin
competition and everything counts; it was a team effort, we all
chipped in. We are moving one game at a time; today’s strategy
was to serve effectively to set our own pace”.
Head coach of Nicaragua René Quintana:
“I am surprised of the scores in each set. My team did what they
needed to do, prevent Honduras from taking the initiative,
allowing us to control the actions. Our serves put Honduras in
trouble; we were more effective in attacking and better in
blocking”.
Captain of Honduras Tessa Flores:
“This was a really bad performance for us, nothing worked and we
were desperate; we committed numerous errors in every aspect, we
were to insecure”.
Coach of Honduras Osiel Vasquez:
“We expected a difficult match but we never thought of losing
the way we did. We made many adjustments in our line-up using
all our players, our efforts were useless. We couldn’t complete
complex one and Nicaragua defended everything, they responded
very well”. |
