MONTELIMAR, Nicaragua, November 5, 2015 – Teams of Nicaragua won
all but one of the podium positions at the double-gender
Montelimar Beach Volleyball Open.
In the men’s division, Nicaragua’s Ruben Mora and Danny Lopez
pocketed the gold medals with a 2-0 (21-15, 21-15) victory over
compatriots Jossy Lopez and Luis Lopez while Gerald Umaña and
Denis Lopez won the bronze medals by defeating Costa Ricans Koen
Voorend and Esteban Jimenez 2-0 (21-15, 21-17).
The most intense match of the final day saw Mora and Lopez edged
Umaña/Lopez 2-1 (21-19, 11-21, 17-15) with the tie-breaker
needing a come-from-behind effort after trailing 14-11.
In the women’s segment, Costa Ricans Katherine Quesada and
Eugenia Ramirez outdueled Nicaraguans Elia Machado and Lolette
Rodriguez 2-1 (14-21, 21-19, 15-13) to take the gold medals.
In the semifinals, Quesada/Ramírez defeated compatriots Heidy
Valverde and Carolina Leandro 2-0 (21-8, 21-16) while Machado/Rodríguez
saw off compatriots Claudia Machado/Socorro López 2-0 (21-7,
21-11).
The bronze medals went to Machado/Lopez who defeated Valverde/Leandro
2-0 (21-14, 21-17). |
