GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala, October 17, 2015.- Nicaragua earned
their second victory at AFECAVOL Men’s U-19 Central American
Championship fighting hard to defeat Belize 3-0 (25-20, 25-14,
25-20).
Nicaragua has a 2-0 win-loss record and ten points, while Belize
has a 0-2 record. On Sunday Nicaragua will face Panama and
Belize plays against Costa Rica.
Nicaragua and Belize engaged in fast and conclusive moves.
Nicaragua took advantage in the first set with more decision.
Belize was resistant in set two and three; Nicaragua kept on
with powerful kills giving them a comfortable margin in set two.
In set three Belize held a three point advantage that Nicaragua
struggled to overcome.
Nicaragua beat Belize with advantage in kills 30-15 and in aces
5-1. Belize was better in the blocking category with 6-2 margin.
In errors they were similar, Nicaragua (32) and Belize (38).
Outside hitter Bayron Hernandez led Nicaragua’s scorers with 16
points, joined by middle blocker Denis Lopez with 10 points and
outside hitter Jonny Zeledon with 8 points. Belize offence was
led by middle blocker Francis Hauze with 11 points.
Jonny Zeledon Nicaragua’s captain indicated “we were
overconfident after winning two sets, but our attitude helped us
to gain back the control, I believe this is fundamental to
perform well”.
Pablo Espat captain of Belize said “we started to build up our
confidence, in the third set everybody got involved, including
our bench players motivating us to fight harder”.
Osman Hernandez coach of Nicaragua said “we must have better
attitude, this is something we have to work on and overcome
little by little. We harmed them with our serves and avoiding
their captain who was making it difficult for us”.
“As the match developed I tried to make changes, making my
players understand fast what they had to execute. Counter
attacking Nicaragua’s tall spikers was difficult” said coach
