GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala, October 22, 2015. - Nicaragua
finished the AFECAVOL Men’s U-19 Central American Championship
with perfect record beating Honduras 3-0 (25-22, 25-10, 25-14)
and clinching the Gold Medal.
Nicaragua won the Central American title undefeated with 6-0
win-loss record and 27 points; Honduras finishes the event
without chances of a medal, with 3-3 record and 14 points.
Honduras effectively blocked and defended during set one,
holding back Nicaragua’s offensive line for a huge 12-5
advantage. Nicaragua lacked energy; they slowly recovered
pushing with stronger spikes and tied the actions to 22 points
and finally finishing the set. Nicaragua had complete control in
set two, while Honduras ran out of resources; Nicaragua won with
overwhelming advantage. Despite Honduras efforts in defense,
Nicaragua continued with astonishing power to seal in straight
sets.
Nicaragua outnumbered Honduras in every skill; with huge
advantage in kills 41-13, a 7-5 margin in blocking and 3-1 in
aces. Nicaragua committed 27 errors and Honduras had 24.
Outside hitter Jonny Zeledon of Nicaragua topped all scorers
with 21 points, middle blocker Denis Lopez added 13 points and
outside hitter Bayron Hernandez scored 12 points. Opposite Alex
Godoy led Honduras with 8 points, followed by middle blocker
Sebastian Aguirre en 6 points.
“Being called Central American Champion is a great feeling; a
lot of people didn’t believe it to be true. We showed that we
are a powerful team, with the capacity to play against anyone. I
give thanks to God for finishing first place” said Bayron
Hernandez of Nicaragua.
Coach Osman Hernandez of Nicaragua expressed “yesterday a said
that Honduras wasn’t an easy opponent and today they showed it,
we knew things could get complicated. We are all satisfied for
the title. I don’t want to leave without thanking Guatemala’s
Federation for their hospitality”.
Carlos Mondragon captain of Honduras said “in set one we proved
what we are capable to do, but we battled once again with
continuity in our performance. We were hoping for more; today we
enjoyed playing with team effort and we will do better in the
next tournament”.
Coach Marvin Ulloa said “we suffered again the referee’s bad
judgment, this really affects my players. We have to work with
any adversity, our problem is not technical, nor tactical, nor
physical, it’s mental; my keep performs well. I am glad that
everyone had a chance to play”. |
