Nicaragua hosts the U23 Women's Championship of Afecavol
MANAGUA, Nicaragua, June 22, 2019 - The IV U23 Women's Central
American Championship will begin on Sunday, June 23, at the
Alexis Arguello Gymnasium, the venue for the Central American
Games volleyball in 2017, an event that saw the coronation of
Costa Rica in the senior women's tournament.
The seven countries of the region participate in the event
promoted by the Association of Central American Volleyball
Federations (AFECAVOL) and represent a platform for most of the
players to make the final leap to the absolute selections.
In this category, Costa Rica has won three of four titles. The
Costa Ricans team was the first champion in 2012 playing at
home, with Guatemala in second and Honduras in third. Then they
prevailed in Honduras 2014, leaving Nicaragua as sub champion
and Guatemala in third.
In Guatemala 2016, Costa Rica returned to the top of the podium,
with the locals in second and El Salvador got its first medal in
this category with a bronze.
José Luis Jiménez, General Secretary of AFECAVOL, in his
capacity as Director of Competition, Jorge Villalobos as
Refereeing Director, as well as Judith Sandino as
Director of VIS, conducted preliminary interviews confirming the
participation of all athletes from the seven countries of the
isthmus .
On the opening day, Guatemala will face Panama at 2:30 in the
afternoon, followed by Honduras against Belize, which gave the
surprise last year, finishing second in the Central American
Championship. At 6:30 p.m. will be the inauguration with
authorities of the Mayor's Office of Managua, the Nicaraguan
Olympic Committee (CON) and the Nicaraguan Volleyball Federation
(FNVB), then the match between Nicaragua and El Salvador. |
