Nicaragua succeeds over Honduras
GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala, October 8, 2014. - Nicaragua
succeeded over Honduras 3-0 (25-11, 25-17, 25-15) on day three
of competitions of the Women’s XVIII Central American Cup at
Teodoro Palacios Flores in Guatemala City.
With a strong performance, Nicaragua dominated Honduras with
wide margin in all scores to improve their win-loss record to
2-1 and accumulate twelve points. Honduras drops to 1-2 and
remains with five points. Honduras managed to keep the scores
close up to the second technical time out in each set, but lost
energy as Nicaragua kept pushing fiercely.
Nicaragua led Honduras in kills with huge advantage (42-17) and
in serves (4-2). Honduras performed better in blocks (6-4).
Once again, captain Claudia Noguera topped Nicaragua collecting
16 points; also with double-fiugres, outside hitter Amalia
Hernadez scored 10 points. For Honduras, opposite player
Catarine Leiva scored 8 points.
Claudia Noguera indicated that they are fulfilling their
objectives “we are focused on each match at a time, we were
determined to give all our power; Honduras did the same but we
kept focused. Now we must think about our next performance”.
Honduras captain Estela Duron said to be confused “I don’t know
what happens with our performance, we keep the score close, we
get to tie and even be on top but something’s missing, maybe
we’re to anxious. Nicaragua has a couple of strong players who
are their strength”.
“We were solid today and with extensive advantage; I am really
pleased with how my players worked under Honduras’ pressure that
made a good effort. For me Honduras begins strong but they lose
energy at half a set. We must think about tomorrow” indicated
coach Rene Quintana.
“History repeats itself, this is something I’ve been struggling
to figure out; the players know the game plan, what is expected
from them and they perform really well in the early stage of
every set, but they begin to lose control and even seem lost. I
have said before that volleyball should be played with
determination and we are lacking that, making it easier for our
opponents to beat us” said Cuban coach Marcos Tejada. |
