Nicaragua suffers to defeat El Salvador in five sets
MANAGUA, Nicaragua, October 30, 2019 - Nicaragua had to come
from behind to outscore El Salvador 3-2 (17-25, 25-21,
20-25, 25-22, 15-13) in more than two hours, of play which
would leave one of the two teams with options to fight the
podium.
El Salvador (0-2) started winning and seemed to dominate the
game, but errors in key points, did not allow them to close
strong, which allowed Nicaragua to get its first win with
one defeat.
Víctor Cruz with 14 points and Denis Espinoza with 11 were
the best in Nicaragua. For El Salvador Yoel Guardado led
with 17, Gustavo Ortiz with 12 and 11 of Abner Cano.
El Salvador dominated 45-38 in attacks, 11-5 in blocking and
equaled 8 in services, but they made more mistakes with 51
to 42 by the Nicaraguans.
Osman Hernández, coach of Nicaragua: “We managed to control
his best attacker, we got him and that allowed us to place
ourselves better in the defense. Tomorrow is one more game,
all the teams are strong, they come for the win, we have to
play Honduras that is undefeated, but we will work to move
forward with the support of the fans that today kept
motivating us”.
Dany Calderón, coach of El Salvador: “Unfortunately nothing
can be rescued today, those are the results of the work that
has been done and making a change is difficult. The boys
were totally lost, it is difficult to try to handle it and
not be guided. At times we looked good, we lost one of the
best servers, but to regret it is not good and we just have
to keep working”.
Nicaragua will face Honduras at 7:00 p.m. this Thursday,
while El Salvador will play Costa Rica at 5:00 p.m.
