Nicaragua wins over Barbados and advances to quarters
TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras. August 29, 2018 - Nicaragua advanced to
the quarterfinals of the Norceca U18 Women's Volleyball
Championship with a 3-0 (25-15, 25-18, 25-19) victory over
Barbados, placing them in third place in Group B.
The Nicaraguans will face the second place in group A, which
will be defined between Cuba and Dominican Republic.
For Nicaragua, Maria Belén Arcia got 13 points, and her teammate
Yaren Llanes had 10. Tenneille Chapman, from Barbados, was
limited to 12 points. Nicaragua was superior in attack 26-13 and
in service 12-8, but they were outscored in blocking 6-3 by
Barbados, who made 34 errors to 25 by the winners.
María Belén Arcia, captain of Nicaragua: "As a team we wanted a
victory and in the end we won it. We hope in the rest of the
tournament to give the best of us in each match, since this
victory can help us raise our spirits, which was very low with
the two defeats we had. "
Claudia Noguera, coach of Nicaragua: "In this game the girls
came out well concentrated, paying attention to the instructions
that we had given them. It is very important that they see what
a competition is like, that in training they work what will be
done in the game. Tomorrow we will face the loser between Cuba
and the Dominican Republic, but we have already achieved the
goal of advancing to the quarter-finals."
Anthazia Mason, Coach of Barbados: "They started with a lot of
determination, but we went back on the scoreboard, but it is due
to the lack of experience of the players. It is our first
international competition, it is important because we must raise
the level, and only with these tournaments will it help us to
improve ". |
