Ninth stop of NORCECA Circuit at Chula Vista
CHULA VISTA, California, October 2, 2014 – The ninth stop of the
2014 NORCECA Beach Volleyball Circuit will take place at the
U.S. Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, California from
October 3-5.
Teams from Aruba, Bonaire, Canada, Costa Rica, El Salvador,
Guadeloupe, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Puerto Rico,
St. Kitts & Nevis, Trinidad & Tobago, United States and U.S.
Virgin Islands are taking part in the double-gender event.
Thirteen women’s teams and sixteen men’s are registered with
Canada and United States being represented by two teams per
gender.
Costa Rica, Mexico and U.S. Virgin Islands are entering two
women’s teams and one men’s pair, while El Salvador has one pair
per gender.
USA’s Lane Carico, who won last year’s women event in Chula
Vista playing alonlgside with Heather Hughes, will be out to
defend her title partnering Kimberly McGiven-Dicello.
In the men’s division, Mexico’s Lombardo Ontiveros and Juan
Virgen, who won here in 2010 and were victorious in Boqueron,
Puerto Rico two weeks ago, are considered the favourites to win
here.
Puerto Rico’s Roberto Rodriguez and Erick Haddock, winners in
Manzanillo, Mexico and third place finishers in Boquerón are
also strong contenders.
Teams will be divided into pools, according to their rankings,
and will play each other in a round robin before advancing to
the knock out round.
