Dominican Republic subdue Guadeloupe
SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, November 3, 2012 – The
Dominican Republic cruised to a straight-set victory (25-12,
25-14, 25-10) over Guadeloupe in the first match of the
NORCECA-C First Round Tournament of the 2014 Men’s FIVB World
Championship on Saturday.
The more experienced Dominicans relied on their stronger serves
and overall skills to subdue the opposition.
Luis Adames and Elnis Palomino topped the winners with 11 and 10
points respectively and Eduardo Concepción chipped in with 8
tallies. Ludovic Baltyde and Alexandre Watson each had six
points for Guadeloupe.
The Dominicans, who made 14 errors to 25 by the losers,
outserved their opponents 6-2 with Palomino recording three
aces.
“I am very glad with the victory especially because all my
players had the chance to see some action,” Cuban coach of
Dominican Republic Osiel Vasquez said. “Guadeloupe played with
motivation and I think they will do much better against Haiti
and U.S. Virgin Islands.”
“It was very hard for us to play against the Dominicans and the
result is normal,” Guadeloupe’s coach Ismael Olivier stated.
“The level of CAZOVA is different than NORCECA. We have to think
about tonight’s and tomorrow’s matches.”
“It is the first time we play against them so we didn’t know
what to expect,” Dominican Republic’s captain Tolinson Aquino
said. “Anyway we were prepared to play and I am happy with the
outcome.”
“We didn’t play the way we wanted and it was very hard for us to
play against a strong team,” Guadeloupe’s captain Loic Couchy
said. |
