Ocasio named MVP of Week 7 in Puerto Rico
SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico, March 12, 2019 – Karina Ocasio, the
captain of Criollas de Caguas, was named the Most Valuable
Player of the seventh week of the Puerto Rican Women’s Superior
League.
It is the second time this year that the veteran Ocasio is the
recipient of the award.
In three matches during the week, Ocasio had 61 points (46
attacks, 11 blocks and four aces) plus 35 defenses and 24
passes.
Ocasio has 305 points for the season, good for third place in
the scoring charts.
The All Star of the week included Ocasio and Noami Santos (Naranjito)
as outside hitters, middle blockers Ivonessa García (Juncos) and
Neira Ortiz (Aibonito), Glorimar Ortega (Aibonito) as setter,
Génesis Colllazo (Toa Baja) as opposite and Libero Shana Venegas
(Caguas).
Paulina Prieto (Juncos) still commands the scoring charts with
341 points for an average of 5.68 by set and also leads in
attacks with 304 for an average of 5.07.
Ortiz dominates in blocks with 62 in 65 sets while a two-way
race is going on in the aces category between teammates Andrea
Rangel and Legna Hernández of Naranjito with 34 and 30,
respectively.
The setter of Mayaguez Kathia Sanchez leads in sets with 352
followed by Ortega with 321.
Finally Debora Seilhamer who this week reached the 6,000 career
plateau of defenses is tops among the liberos with 374 digs and
33 passes from receptions.
