Peru overcomes Mexico in four sets
GUADALAJARA, Mexico, October 15, 2011 – Peru scored a 3-1
(27-25, 16-25, 25-19, 25-19) victory over hosts Mexico in the
second match of Pool B of the Pan American Games Women’s
Volleyball Tournament on Saturday.
Patricia Soto and Carla Rueda were the best scorers of the
winners with 18 and 16 points respectively while Jessenia Uceda
contributed 12. Mexico’s Martha Revuelta topped all the players
with a match-high 21 points. Andrea Rangel charted 14 while
Claudia Rios and Karla Sainz each had 10.
Peru’s Patricia Soto stated: “These victories made us feel
strong to go out and play every match. Mexico is a team that
always has a good start in this kind of tournaments. We could
keep a balance, and also had some trouble, but the experience of
some of our players helped us to go forward.”
Mexico’s Martha Revuelta said: “We are a Little bit sad because
we really wanted to win our first match. I think we had ups and
downs, but we need to grow up in this kind of situations when
closing a match. We are a young team and hope we can go from
minus to more. Unfortunately, the downs came at the end of the
set.”
Luca Cristofani, coach of Peru: “I have seen Mexico playing much
better since the last time we faced each other. I am happy
because we have also played with very young and talented players
like Claivett Yllescas and also with our captain (Patricia Soto)
who always helps us in the difficult moments.”
Mario Herrera, coach of Mexico: “We need a plus and to gain more
experience when playing international matches, specifically
preparation matches, that is fundamental. This is not a
justification but I think that is the formula for great teams in
the preparation stage.” |
