Brazil trounce Canada for second win
GUADALAJARA, Mexico, October 16, 2011 – World top-ranked Brazil
scored a 3-0 (25-19, 25-12, 25-10) victory over Canada to claim
its second win in Pool A of the Women’s Volleyball Tournament of
the Pan American Games Guadalajara 2011.
Brazil dominated the game at the net with a 8-3 advantage in
blocks and had a 4-0 margin in aces.
Paula Pequeno and Mari Steinbrecher topped Brazil with 13 and 11
points while Sherline Holness was the best Canadian with nine
tallies.
Jose Roberto Guimaraes (Coach of Brazil): “We improved our
concentration tonight in blocking and defense. We hope to do the
same against Cuba. I don’t like to talk about medals. We played
two months ago and Cuba comes as a better team with more attack
options.”
Fabiana Claudino (Captain of Brazil): “We had good services and
good blocking plays. Everybody did a great job.”
Thaisa Meneses (Player of Brazil): “We are a little bit less
worried about what happened with Jacqueline. We played more
relaxed and more concentrated.”
Arnd Ludwig, (Coach of Canada): “Brazil is number one and we are
number 20. That is a big difference. Our championship starts
tomorrow once we face Dominican Republic.”
Tammy Mahon (Captain of Canada): “Against a team like Brazil,
that makes no mistakes, you have a few chances to make points.”
Sherline Holness (Player of Canada): “We had two tough
opponents. It is nice top play against a higher level team as a
chance to improve our skills, and we have to improve our defense
and blocking game.” |
