Dr. Castro Soto del Valle is a volleyball fan
GUADALAJARA, Mexico, October 20, 2011 – Doctor Antonio Castro
Soto del Valle, one of the top orthopedic surgeons in Cuba and
avid sports fan, has been attending the women’s volleyball
matches of the XVI Pan American Games.
“Tony”, as he is often cited, happens to be one of the sons of
Fidel Castro, the leader of the Cuban Revolution since 1959 who
stepped down from government in 2008.
During the volleyball matches of Cuba, Castro Soto del Valle,
has been accompanied by Cuban volleyball legend Eugenio George
Laffita and Cristobal Marte Hoffiz, President of NORCECA
Confederation and the Pan American Volleyball Union.
Doctor Castro Soto del Valle gained international exposure as
team physician of the Cuban National Teams that took part in the
World Baseball Classic in 2006 and 2009. He is frequently cited
as a former third baseman in his younger years.
Marte Hoffiz said that he invited Dr. Castro Soto del Valle to
join the Medical Commission of NORCECA Volleyball Confederation.
“Doctor Castro is a very enthusiastic young man with great
experience in the field of orthopedics and sport medicine,”
Marte Hoffiz said. “He would be a very valuable addition to our
Medical Commission if he decides to join us.”
Defending and eight-time champions Cuba will play Brazil for the
gold medal in Thursday night closing match of the women’s
volleyball tournament. |
