GUADALAJARA, Mexico, October 29 2011.— The United States played
another five set match to claim the fifth place at the Pan
American Games, after defeating Canada 3-2 (22-25, 25-15, 25-19,
21-25, 19-17).

Nicholas Vogel tallied 20 apiece and Antonio Ciarelli scored 14.
On the Canadian side Spencer Leiske finished with 24, Sander
Ratsep with 14 and Jacob Kilpatrick 11.
“It was just another five sets match, Canada had a difficult
service and everything was reduced to the last set”, said USA’s
coach John Speraw. “It was our destiny to go to five sets, but
this time we could get the info of our rivals”, stated Patak,
who have faced Canada previously on the Pool round.
For Canada’s coach Vincent Pichette this was a great opportunity
to get the international exposure.
“It was a good experience and we appreciate the support of the
fans of Guadalajara”, said Pichette.
“We had our ups and downs, it was so tight in the end, and after
all we want to thank the volunteers and the people for making us
feel great”, Canadian captain Louis Pierre Mainville, remarked. |
