USA teams off to a good start in St Lucia
GROS ISLET, St Lucia, October 26, 2012 – Teams of USA-1 and
USA-2 both won their opening matches at the St Lucia Beach
Volleyball Tournament, the ninth stop of the 2012 NORCECA
Circuit at Pigeon Point Beach on Friday.
On a typical Caribbean day, hot and sunny, William Montgomery
and Jonathan Mesko of USA-1 opened the actions with a 21-13,
21-15 victory over Curtis Gaskin and Hugh Sealy of Barbados
while Jeffrey Carlson and Antonio Ciarelli of USA-2 edged
Guatemala’s Moisés Reyes and Erick Garrido by scores of 21-18,
21-18.
Gaskin/Sealy remained in competition after winning against Emroy
Lee and Xavier Roberts of Antigua 21-14, 21-12 and the tandem of
Reyes/Garrido stayed alive with a 21-10, 21-17 win over Cluevvan
Cumberbatch and Daryl Franklyn of Saint Vincent.
The closest contest of Day One saw Grenada’s Adam Lafeuillee and
Gregg Gilbert prevailing 21-16, 22-20 over Antiguans Lee/Roberts
of Antigua.
The teams of Saint Vincent, British Virgin Islands,
Anquilla
and Antigua all were ousted after losing their two matches of
Friday in the double-elimination event.
