Montgomery and Mesko win over compatriots in St Lucia
GROS ISLET, St Lucia, October 28, 2012 – William Montgomery and
Jonathan Mesko of USA-1 defeated compatriots Jeffrey Carlson and
Antonio Ciarelli of USA-2 by scores of 21-13, 24-22 in an
All-American gold medal match in the men’s competition of the
St Lucia Beach Volleyball Tournament, the ninth stop of the 2012
NORCECA Circuit.
Despite being challenged a couple of times during the weekend,
Montgomery and Mesko won the ten sets the pair played in their
five contests.
“I’m glad to be here. This weekend was really exciting. We
played against good teams. St. Lucia has a phenomenal team and
Trinidad played very well, so it was really hard”, Mesko said.
“To play here was really fun,” Montgomery said. “To watch other
countries playing so well is nice. The match against St. Lucia
was hard and fun also.”
They arrived into the last match of the competition by defeating
21-12, 25-23 the team of Fabien Whitfield and Daniel Williams of
Trinidad & Tobago-A. Carlson and Ciarelli had dispatched Julian
Bissette and Joseph Clercent of St Lucia-A by scores of 21-14,
21-16.
The bronze medal went to the home duo of Bissette and Clercent
who beat Whitfield and Williams in a lopsided match 21-14,
21-13.
“We worked really hard to be here and to play well. We lost
against USA and we knew that it would be hard. But to be third
place in our home in the first tournament in St Lucia is really
good”, said Clercent said.
Then Bissette added: “Now we have to continue working hard. We
want to be prepared for the next tournament in Trinidad because
we want to stay among the best players.”
