Turtles Hatch Next to Volleyball Stadium
PUERTO VALLARTA, Mexico, October 15, 2010 - Nature’s wisdom came
to show right after dozens of pacific turtles hatched next to
the stadium where the current stop of the NORCECA Beach
Volleyball Circuit is taking place.
At around 7:00PM, during the training sessions the evening
before the kick off of the tournament, some referees noticed
some black dots next to the north side of the court. This
commanded the attention of several people including several duos
that were in the middle of their practice.
With the help of Puerto Vallarta’s authorities, the amphibians
were immediately rescued and put under protection and today,
Friday 15, near the close of the competitions those baby turtles
were released at sea, allowing the event to continue with a
final game featuring Mexican pair Aldo Miramontes and Juan
Virgen.
Those who took part in the release of the hatchlings included
the married couple of former Olympians Mayra Huerta and Joel
Sotelo as well as Larx Promotions Director Laura Amaral.
Participants had a chance to connect to marine life as little by
little the baby turtles were released one day after being born
during a gorgeous sunset.
The occasion served to give a special touch to the beach
volleyball championship which continues with competitions on
Saturday and Sunday, October 15 and 16, respectively and which
is also part of the Bicentennial Olympic Festival |
