Santiago and Acevedo in semifinals at Puerto Vallarta
PUERTO VALLARTA, Mexico, October 16, 2010 – Top-seeded Yarleen
Santiago and Dariam Acevedo of Puerto Rico and Mexicans Aldo
Miramontes and Juan Virgen are the women’s and men’s first
semifinalists respectively at Bicentennial Beach Volleyball Cup,
the tenth and final stage of 2010 NORCECA Circuit.
Santiago/Acevedo advanced following their 21-19, 23-21 victory
against Heather Bansley/Elizabeth Maloney of Canada-1 while
Miramontes/Virgen made it into the final four round with a
21-18, 21-17 win against Steve Marshall/Benjamin Saxton of
Canada.
Mexicans Martha Revuelta/Xitlali Herrera and Ulises Ontiveros/Lombardo
Ontiveros also advanced to the semifinals through de winners’
bracket.
Revuelta/Herrera beat Cayley Thurlby/Kimberly McGiven of USA
(21-14, 21-14) and the Ontiveros brothers edged Marcin Jagoda/Michael
Diehl of USA-1 (21-17, 18-21, 15-12).
Virgen and Miramontes delivered a surprise to Canada’s team
thanks to a strong, targeted attack helped by some errors on the
Canadian side to decide the winning score.
The Mexicans, fresh from winning in Manzanillo, served to secure
this win while adding valuable qualifying points for the
upcoming Pan American Games.
Cubans Yoendri Kinderlan/Sergio Gonzalez who defeated Canadians
Marshall/Saxtos in another stellar contest, and Jagoda/Diehl,
who easily downed Guatemala, made the semifinals through the
losers’ bracket. The list of women’s semifinalists includes also
the teams Thurlby/McGiven and Bansley/Maloney.
