Official Announcement for the fifth stop of the NORCECA Tour
SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador, December 7, 2023. – The official announcement
of the return of the NORCECA Beach Volleyball Tour after 13 years to the
City of San Salvador, was made during a press conference for the local
media.
The organizing committee, along with several teams already in San
Salvador, provided details about the fifth stage of the Tour that runs
from December 8 to 10. A level-of play is expected, with the
participation of medalists from the recent Central American and
Caribbean Games held here in El Salvador.
The venue will be at the beach sports stadium at the Flor Blanca Sports
Complex, which, according to Yamil Bukele, the Ad Honorem director of
the Salvadoran Institute of Sports (INDES), “is one of the legacies left
by the Central American and Caribbean Games”.
“We will have the pleasure of witnessing high-level volleyball, and I
want to encourage our athletes to give their best. For us, they are
already champions, but, of course, we want the best results at the end
of these three days of competition”, stated Bukele.
The competition will feature representatives from 13 countries, with 16
confirmed men’s pairs and 14 women’s pairs, according to Eduardo Paiz,
member of the organizing committee.
Shen Liou, the president of the Salvadoran Volleyball Federation,
mentioned that “games will be played from 8:30 in the morning until 7 in
the evening on three courts, with more than 40 matches throughout the
tournament. Admission will be free of charge so that everyone can enjoy
this spectacle”.
The champions from the past Central American and Caribbean Games are
returning to El Salvador, Juan Virgen alongside Miguel Sarabia from
Mexico, and the Puerto Rican duo of Allanis Navas and María González.
Also from Mexico, Atenas Gutiérrez and Abril Flores, bronze medalists.
