Omaha Presents NORCECA Key to City
OMAHA, Nebraska, September 15, 2013 – The Visit Omaha NORCECA
Women’s Continental Championship is taking place September 16-21
in Omaha, Nebraska, and the city has become a quick friend to
NORCECA.
Visit Omaha, the local convention and visitor’s bureau for the
city in Nebraska, presented Mr. Cristobal Marte Hoffiz with a
key to the city at a kickoff dinner on Friday by Dana Markel,
executive director the Omaha Convention and Visitor’s Bureau.
Volleyball is well followed in the state of Nebraska, and
brings in many large tournaments for youth and college events
prior to this first venture into international volleyball.
The nine-team NORCECA Women’s Continental Championship will be
played at Ralston Arena with preliminary round matches Monday
through Wednesday. The playoffs begin on Thursday with the
quarterfinals, followed by semifinals on Friday and final
classification and medal round matches on Saturday. All matches

Omaha has a long history of supporting both amateur and
professional sporting championship events. In addition to
serving as host city for the NCAA Division I Women’s Volleyball
Championships in 2006 and 2008, the NCAA Division I Men’s
College World Series is annually held in Omaha. The U.S. Olympic
Team Trials for Swimming returned to Omaha in 2012 after hosting
the event in 2008. The Prudential 2013 U.S. Figure Skating
Championships was held in Omaha in January. |
