Ortega joins the 5,000-Assists Club
SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico, February 22 2019 – Glorimar Ortega became
the third player in the history of the Puerto Rican Women’s
Volleyball Superior League to reach the 5,000 assists plateau
joining Michele Cardona and Vilmarie Mojica.
The Naranjito-born setter achieved the feat during the fifth set
of the match her team Polluelas de Aibonito lost to Amazonas de
Trujillo Alto on Thursday.
“Honestly I didn’t expected because I played two years in France
and was two years out due to maternity…..Reading a publication
of the FPV I learned about the milestone. I want to thank my
coaches throughout the years - Carlos Pizarro, Topi, Alan
Obrador, Carlos Núñez, Carlos Cardona- and everyone who have
been part of my career. I also want to dedicate this to my hero,
my dad,” Ortega commented to the internet site of the Puerto
Rican Volleyball Federation.
The other two members of the 5,000-Assists Club, both retired,
are Cardona with 6,354 and Mojica who finished with 5,508.
Ortega who currently has 5,003 sets, will be back in court on
Saturday when the Polluelas host Changas de Naranjito at Marrón
Aponte Court of Aibonito. |
