Osmany Juantorena wins fourth MVP award
KRAKOW, Poland, December 17, 2017 – Four Cuban-born players were
included in the Dream Team of the 2017 FIVB Men’s Club World
Championship, including Osmany Juantorena selected the Most
Valuable Player for a record fourth time.
Juantorena, spiker for Cucine Lube Civitanova, was joined by
outside hitters Wilfredo Leon of Zenit Kazan, and Yoandy Leal of
Sada Cruzeiro, and middle blocker Roberlandy Simon also of Sada
Cruzeiro.
The 32-year-old Cuban-born Italian had been named MVP three
times before, while playing for the gold-medal-winning team of
Trentino in 2010, 2011 and 2012. He is the only player in the
history of the competition to have received the award more than
once.
Zenit Kazan, the reigning European and Russian champions wrapped
it all up at Krakow's Tauron Arena with a very convincing
performance 3-0 (27-25, 25-22, 25-22) in the final against
Italian champions Cucine Lube Civitanova.
