Packed house watched Mexican thrilling victory
LEON, Mexico, July 20, 2019 – Host Mexico recovered from losing
the first two sets and went on to defeat Peru 3-2 (23-25, 20-25,
25-17, 25-12, 15-10) in the semifinals for the 9-to-12 positions
of the U20 FIVB Women’s World Championship on Saturday.
Grecia Castro (22), Melanie Parra (22) and Uxue Guereca (21) led
Mexico.
Kiara Montes (16) led Peru.
Cuba advanced to a match for the 13th place after defeating
Egypt 3-1 (20-25, 25-11, 25-13, 25-15) on Saturday. Cuba
outscored Egypt 14-4 in blocks and 11-5 in services. Ailama Cesé
led Cuba with 16 points, followed by Ivy May Vila with 14.
The Dominican Republic defeated Rwanda 3-0 (25-14, 25-13, 25-14)
moving to a contest with Cuba for the 13th position. Flormarie
Heredia and Madeline Guillen were the best scorers for the
winners with 15 and 10 points, respectively.
In Aguascalientes, United States lost to Brazil 3-1 (25-15,
14-25, 25-9, 25-15) and were relegated to the match against
China for the seventh place.
Kisy Nascimento had 26 points as the best Brazilian, while Logan
Eggleston scored 14 as the top American. |
