Pan American medalists are back in Lima

LIMA, Peru. July 23, 2019 - Some of the couples or players who won medals in beach volleyball at the Toronto 2015 Pan American Games, are back in Lima 2019 with the mission of improving or matching the place occupied on the podium four years ago.

The mission will be complicated. In men, Mexicans Lombardo Ontiveros and Juan Virgen, gold medal winners in Toronto are in group D, which complete Chile, Canada and Nicaragua.

Chile has cousins Esteban and Marco Grimalt, who were fourth in losing to Cuba at the Toronto event, but this year they had a great performance in the World Beach Volleyball Circuit, ranking among the top 10.

Also, Cuban Sergio Gonzalez, a bronze medalist four years ago, now has Luis Reyes as a partner, both were champions in the Central American and Caribbean Games of Colombia last year. Cuba is in group C, along with Brazil, Uruguay and Costa Rica.

In Group A are Peru, Venezuela, Guatemala and the Dominican Republic; while in the pool B are the United States, El Salvador, Argentina and Trinidad and Tobago.

The first game of the men's day will be between Canada against Nicaragua at 10:40 a.m. on court 1 and on court 2, Chile is measured to Mexico.

In the women division, the gold medalist in Toronto, Ana Gallay, from Argentina, will now play with Fernanda Pereyra; while the Cuban Leila Martínez, who was in second four years ago, now is accompanied by Maylen Deliz while another medalist, but bronze, was the Brazilian Carol Horta, who this time has Angela Lavalle as a partner.
