Panama Men and Guatemala Women lead day one at U19

Central American Championship in Costa Rica

 

SAN JOSE, Costa Rica, November 24, 2023. - Victor Arauz/Adamit del Cid Moreno from Panama in men and Maritza Zúńiga/Danna Aguilar from Guatemala in women lead the standings after the first day of the Under-19 Central American Championship being held at the sand courts in Sabana.

 

In men, Arauz/Del Cid from Panama defeated Levi Radua/Rafael Vargas from El Salvador 2-0 (21-19/21-13). Nicaragua’s Ángelo Solís/Evans Guadamuz also won 2-0 against El Salvador 21-19/21-16.

 

The hosts, Julian Araya/Yulius Brown, defeated Guatemala’s Roberto Recinos/José Daniel Guevara 2-0 (21-10/21-14). Ending the men’s session, Nicaragua won 2-0 against El Salvador Rauda/Vargas 21-19/21-16.

 

After the results of the day, Panama leads in the men, followed by Costa Rica, 3-Nicaragua, 4-El Salvador, and 5-Guatemala.

 

Meanwhile, in women, Maritza Zúńiga/Danna Aguilar from Guatemala won 2-0 against El Salvador’s Alexandra Reyes/Fátima Rendón 21-9/21-10. In their second game, Guatemala triumphed against Panama 21-13/21-13.

 

Yuliana Chávez/Kadderly Rosales from Nicaragua won in the third set against Panama's Krisleen González/Elleny Espinoza, ending with scores of 21-18/16-21/15-6.

 

To close the day, Costa Rica's Valentina Molina/Aliza Aguilar defeated Nicaragua's Chaves/Rosales 2-0 with scores of 21-15/21-12.

 

Guatemala tops the standings, followed by 2-Nicaragua, 3-Costa Rica, 4-Panama, and 5-El Salvador.
