Panama beats El Salvador for first victory

 

   

GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala, October 21, 2015. - Panama beat El Salvador 3-0 (25-15, 25-13, 25-22)  for their first victory at the AFECAVOL Men’s U-19 Central American Championship at Teodoro Palacios Flores Gymnasium.

 

Panama improves to a 1-4 win-loss record and ten points while El Salvador finishes the competition with 2-4 record and seven points. In their last performance Panama will face Belize (0-5).

 

Panama easily took control of the actions while El Salvador engaged in errors and performing with slow rhythm. Panama’s spikers executed without resistance during the first two sets; El Salvador was more focused in the third and improved their performance, keeping the score closer.

 

The winners prevailed with huge 41-16 margin in kills and 4-0 in aces; in blocking both squads scored 3 points. Panama committed 31 errors and El Salvador 27.

 

Outside hitter Jose Anguizola of Panama topped with 18 points, 15 on kills, 1 block and 2 aces, Ramon Gonzalez chipped in with 13 points. Middle blocker Diego Guidos scored 6 points for El Salvador.

 

“We performed with more confidence and we had fun; this helped us to win” said captain Anguizola.

 

Diego Ascencio captain of El Salvador indicated “my final thoughts about the tournament are that we must continue to work with commitment, we know if we focus harder we can play better”.

 

Marco Perez coach of Panama said “we chatted with the team to motivate them and they were able to speak about their emotions and thoughts about their previous performances, I believe this did them well because the played with a different attitude. This is their first experience with the national team and their process will continue; we must find more funding to contribute with their development”.

 

Coach Gerson Ceron of El Salvador said “I am satisfied, the team fought hard and the result is better than I expected. It’s the first international competition for many and I am glad that we did a lot with little practice”.
