Panama wins first victory with overwhelming serves
BELIZE CITY, Belize, July 17, 2023.- Panama earned their first victory
beating Honduras 3-0 (25-16, 25-23, 25-11) in the second match of day
two at the XIV AFECAVOL Women’s U19 Central American Championship, with
an overwhelming 17-3 advantage in serves.
Panama showed a whole different face from their loss on the first day of
competition, they won solidly against a resilient Honduras, with
superiority in serves, reaching a 14 point difference (17-3).
Panama held a huge advantage to dominate the first set 25-16. In the
second set each point was highly contested by both teams, Panama didn’t
allow Honduras who battled to win, finishing with a close 25-23 for
Panama.
In the third set, Panama was superior and with a 14 point difference
they closed 25-11.
In addition to dominating in serves, Panama held a 28-23 advantage in
attacks and 6-3 in blocks. Panama scored 24 and Honduras 21 points on
opponent errors.
The best scorers were the Panamanians, team captain Ekaterina Ureña and
Krisleen González with 9 points each and for Honduras, team captain
Marynur Martínez and Isabella García scored 6 points each.
On Tuesday 18, Honduras will face Costa Rica at 5:00pm and Panama will
play against Nicaragua at
2:30pm.

“We played very well today, always together, we have a good defense,
and each one gives their best as a team. Yesterday we lost, but that
didn’t mean we were going to give up, Panama has much to show”.

“This was a match we wanted to win, yesterday we had a bad match with El
Salvador, it wasn’t the best and today we wanted the victory, but we
will go forward, we still have a little more, it’s not the last so we
will go on thinking about each match and thinking about the future”.
